Kenya coach Francis Kimanzi has signed a one-year extension to his contract and will lead the country in the final phase of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, the newly formed Football Kenya Limited announced in Nairobi on Thursday.

The 32-year-old Kimanzi, who also coached Mathare United to the league title last month, helped Kenya to an unexpected second place finish in their first round group standings and progress to the last 20 qualifiers.

Kenya had previously been suspended by FIFA after government interference in the running of its football federation’s affairs.

Kenya opened their campaign with a home match against Tunisia in March and also play Nigeria and Mozambique in their group.

The winner will qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals while the first three finishers in the group play at the 2010 African Nations Cup finals in Angola.
