Mikel Dismisses Africa's Chances At World Cup

Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel has rubbished the chances of an African country winning the first World Cup to be held on the continent. Many experts have predicted that an African country can win the tournament to be held in South Africa next year.
England coach Fabio Capello has identified Cote d'Ivoire as potential challengers in South Africa and it is worth bearing in mind that traditionally European nations do not triumph at World Cups outside Europe.
Mikel however remains cautious about his continent's chances and he is unsure if a home nation will win next year's World Cup.
"I would like one of my African brothers or an African country to win it, but with the way football in Europe is going - the quality of the game they are playing is getting faster and better every day," Mikel said.
"I support the African teams but I can see one of the European countries winning it."
South Africa have qualified for the tournament as hosts while Ghana was the first country from the continent to book its ticket.
Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Tunisia and Egypt have also been tipped to qualify for the competition.
